8th grade Reading Standards
According to the data, eighth grade students were working with standard 6 the most proficiently, due to having the most advanced students with that standard. Under standard 6 students can read and recognize literature as a record of human experience. Standard 5, where students read to locate, select, and make use of relevant information from a variety of media, reference, and technological sources, is the standard that needs the most attention. None of the standards strictly stood out more than another. If the students practiced or studied harder for standard 5, which includes applying information to real life situations, all of their scores would be relatively even and stable. For example, they could practice creating bibliographies.
8th Grade Math Standards
According to the statistics, eighth graders understood standard 3 the best (16 were Advanced). Under standard 3, students use data collection and analysis, statistics, and probability in problem-solving situations and communicate the reasoning used in solving these problems. Standard 1, where students develop number sense and use numbers and number relationships in problem-solving situations and communicate the reasoning used in solving these problems needs to be addressed because only 7 were categorized in the advanced category and a grand total of 51 were found to be unsatisfactory. If the students improved on standard 1 and worked on their integers and decimals, it would increase the overall scores in a positive way.
Overall the students need to work on more math standards than reading.
